{"id":736,"date":"2018-06-05T13:34:19","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T13:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/freerohingyacoalition.org\/en\/?p=736"},"modified":"2018-06-06T13:41:49","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T13:41:49","slug":"how-will-bangladesh-respond-to-the-icc-over-the-rohingya-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freerohingyacoalition.org\/en\/how-will-bangladesh-respond-to-the-icc-over-the-rohingya-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"How will Bangladesh respond to the ICC over the Rohingya crisis?"},"content":{"rendered":"Published by Radio France International<\/a> on June 5, 2018\r\n\r\nBangladesh has until next Monday, June 11th, to submit written observations to the International Criminal Court on the circumstances surrounding the presence of Rohingyas in the country.\r\n\r\nThe ICC put this request to Bangladesh, after its prosecutor, asked judges to rule on whether the ICC has jurisdiction over the alleged deportation of Rohingya muslims from Myanmar to Bangladesh.\r\n\r\nThere are now around 1.1 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.\r\n\r\nThe largest influx came in August last year when thousands of Rohingyas fled Rakine state following a military crackdown & civil violence against them involving mass killings, rape & mutilation.\r\n\r\nViolence the United Nations described as ethnic cleansing.\r\n\r\nRFI’s Zeenat Hansrod (Twitter @zxnt<\/a>)spoke to delegates at a conference at the National Assembly in Paris on the situation the Rohingya people in Myanmar and Bangladesh.\r\n\r\nShe spoke to\r\n\r\n– Tapan Bose, writer, film maker in Delhi and also the secretary general of the South-Asia Forum for Human Rights\r\n\r\n– Shirin Chaudhury, Speaker of the National Parliament of Bangladesh\r\n\r\n– John Packer, professor of law at the University of Ottawa in Canada\r\n\r\n
