{"id":1623,"date":"2019-12-01T12:21:58","date_gmt":"2019-12-01T12:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/freerohingyacoalition.org\/en\/?p=1623"},"modified":"2020-01-15T18:38:35","modified_gmt":"2020-01-15T18:38:35","slug":"key-rohingya-campaigners-face-abduction-threats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freerohingyacoalition.org\/en\/key-rohingya-campaigners-face-abduction-threats\/","title":{"rendered":"Key Rohingya campaigners face abduction threats"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>By<\/em> Sorwar Alam | Published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/asia-pacific\/key-rohingya-campaigners-face-abduction-threats-\/1660108\">Anadolu Agency<\/a> on November 30, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 Myanmar Buddhist and leading Rohingya campaigners in Europe claim they face threats from Myanmar<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ANKARA&nbsp;<\/strong> &#8212; Two leading figures of the Rohingya campaign in Europe are fearing for their lives after calls for their abduction were circulated in a racist video message.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>London-based Maung Zarni and Germany-based Nay San Lwin said they were targeted by Aye Ne Win, a businessman who allegedly financed the genocide against the ethnic group in Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a video circulated on social media, Win urged Myanmar&#8217;s intelligence service to launch an Israel-style operation to kidnap the two activists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He can be seen as saying: \u201cConcerning Maung Zarni and Nay San Lwin, it is high time for Myanmar military intelligence services to launch an Israeli-style kidnap operation that captured Eichmann in South America.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese creatures should not dare to come to our country. They scream foul from abroad but they need to be tried here [In Myanmar].\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zarni told Anadolu Agency that he was taking these threats very seriously.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are taking this very seriously as it came from one of the richest and most racist men in Myanmar &#8212; Aye Ne Win,&#8221; he said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Win, the grandson of Gen. Ne Win, is widely known to be one of the key financiers of the genocidal monk group known as Ma Ba Tha, according to Zarni.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stated that they have been targeted because he was \u201cthe whistleblower of Rohingya genocide\u201d and along with Lwin helped the UN Fact-Finding Mission on the Rohingya genocide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe [Myanmar\u2019] military-intelligence-run proxy news organizations have been running extremely vitriolic attacks on us &#8211; with our pictures as &#8216;enemies of the state&#8217;,\u201d he underlined.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are taking these latest developments very seriously\u2026 Both of us are informing our respective government agencies, including local police,\u201d Zarni added.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lwin and Zarni will be attending the International Court of Justice hearing on Dec. 10, 11 and 12.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amnesty International said that more than 750,000 Rohingya refugees, mostly women and children, have fled Myanmar and crossed into Bangladesh after Myanmar forces launched a crackdown on the minority Muslim community in August 2017, pushing the number of persecuted people in Bangladesh above 1.2 million.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Aug. 25, 2017, nearly 24,000 Rohingya Muslims have been killed by Myanmar\u2019s state forces, according to a report by the Ontario International Development Agency (OIDA).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 34,000 Rohingya were also thrown into fires, while over 114,000 others were beaten, said the OIDA report, titled &#8220;Forced Migration of Rohingya: The Untold Experience.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 18,000 Rohingya women and girls were raped by Myanmar\u2019s army and police and
